The ProgramThe International PDS in Cabarete, Dominican Republic (IPDS-Dominican Republic) provides opportunities for teacher education candidates to share and learn Montessori method teaching techniques while studying the Spanish language.
IPDS-Dominican Republic is is a 3-credit course that includes over 2-weeks abroad each January. Participants enroll in study abroad course to be completed semester prior to travel. While abroad, participants engage with Pk-6 children at 3 Mariposas Montessori School, a not-for-profit, unique early childhood development program providing the community with the critical foundation necessary for educational success. In addition participants study the Dominican education system through interactions with local public schools and administrators, engage in intensive Spanish language instruction, develop relationships with local families through daily meals, and develop an understanding and appreciation of Dominican life through exposure to the culture and history of this coastal town and its surrounding areas. |
Participation
IPDS-Dominican Republic is open to all Buffalo State currently enrolled teacher education students. This experience is most suited for students who plan on (or are interested in) teaching at the early childhood level.
