I observed for my first day in the school at 3MM. I was in a Montessori school before, therefore I recognized some of the lessons. During my observation I was looking to see how the children interacted with each other, as well as the teachers.
I noticed how there was not a lot of language lessons in the school. I felt very beneficial on my second day because my small group began to make nomenclature cards for the school. I know that these cards will be a major resource used by the children. The children will begin to recognize the spanish and english words that the picture represents.
I met my family that I eat lunch with everyday. The parents are very nice and they have four children. The father can speak english and the children are learning it in school. The mother does not comprehend english at all. The family only speaks in spanish while we immersing with them. My first day eating with the family I can honestly say that I did not comprehend anything they said at all. When I spoke I was only able to say minimal words and a lot of times the family did not understand my spanish. This has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I fully understand what it is like to be a person in a room who has no idea what is going on. This experience is rewarding as a teacher. When I finally have a student who does not comprehend english I will know exactly what that student is going through. I am excited to continue my experience here because it will help me figure out ways on how I will be able to communicate with future students.
