This weekend we had a full schedule of fun activities that we took part in! On Saturday, we woke up and headed through the mountains and went on a long and wonderful kayaking adventure! It was amazing to view the scenery while traveling down the small channel of water that we took our kayaks in. We passed many different animals along the sides of the riverbanks. There were horses, men riding on donkeys, dogs, and chickens! It was a totally different way of living and life that I have ever experienced before. It is refreshing to see this! After the kayaking adventure, we were taken to a local's house and given a native meal. This meal consisted of rice, beans, plantains, egg plant, and chicken! This meal was very good and very authentic! I was very appreciative that I was able to experience what a meal is like first hand made by a local.
Today, we got up early and headed for The Monkey Jungle approximately thirty minutes away from where we are staying. Today we got the opportunity to feed monkeys and go zip lining! This was quite the adventure due to the fact that these two activities caused me to step out of my comfort zone and face my fears that I did not even know that I possessed! I was super excited to go zip lining until I realized that I did not like being up high. Although, I faced my apparent fear and followed through with the activity and enjoyed the thrill. We also were given the chance to feed monkeys! This experience also caused me to realize that I have a small fear of monkeys! Although, I continued on with the activity because I knew that I would probably not be given this chance to do something that this for a very long time! These small animals seemed super excited when many of the other students had the trays of food in their hands. The monkeys swarmed many of my fellow students and it was super interesting and cool to watch this!
Be sure to continue to follow my blog entries! Tomorrow is the start of a busy week and am excited to share my experiences with everyone!
