Today, I'm sitting here writing this post thinking about what the future may hold for me while in the Dominican Republic. I've been having so many mixed emotions and feelings that stem from so many thoughts; Such as being away from my family for longer than a week, traveling outside of the country (Canada's not included), working with amazing children, having a host family, and last by not least being on a plane for the first time. I've been contemplating what I would write for this first post simply because in more ways than one, I am excited and grateful for this wonderful experience. But, I also have some fears about what could happen while down there. Although we know safety should not be an issue because we have different protocols for safety, I'm worried about safety, fears of flying, and my whole experience. Hopefully by the time we land in Cabarete and I see the beautiful skies, my fears will go away.
Also while thinking about this experience, I'm thinking of how much this trip will transform my life. Although we will only be there for three weeks, I believe this trip will enhance my knowledge in so many ways! I believe I will learn more about myself and the students I plan to teach. I also plan to become more fluent in speaking Spanish and working in groups. I'm very excited that I am one of the group leaders for our activities but I also feel like that puts a lot of pressure on me to excel even more because I'm working with others and not solely depending on myself. This experience will certainly be one that I will reflect on for the rest of my life and after writing this post I can say I'm truly ready for this challenge!
-Jasmine, Ready to learn and experience what the rest of the world has to offer!
P.S. Happy New Year to all!
