I know many of the other girls have never been outside the country and, for many of them, many aspects of this trip are uncomfortable. However, all I can think about is how this experience is exactly what I was looking for when I lived in Honduras. Our accommodations are absolutely beautiful - spacious, clean. In Honduras, our water supply was horribly limited and we had no hot water tank. Here, we can use as much hot water as we want. In Honduras, there were often power outages due to faulty power lines and electricity shortages. That is not a problem here. In Honduras, my house was full of nasty cockroaches - no such pests here. I am extremely grateful that our transportation is pre-arranged, and that we have many excursions and dinners built into our schedule. Granted, I realize that we are staying in a resort and that we are traveling through a college program, but I could never complain about this trip when I compare it to living in Honduras.
With these things in mind, I am interested to see how the poor (most people) live here. I look forward to eating and conversing with our host families for lunch and gaining a more accurate perspective of life in the Dominican.
