This weekend was most exciting, and full of new experiences. On Saturday, we went on a white water kayaking trip. Although I kayak frequently at home, I have never before used an ocean kayak, nor have I navigated rapids - however small - in a kayak. Hence, although I have twenty years of experience kayaking, I struggled more than once in the river.
Nonetheless, I did gain a new skill - paddleboarding! I did not think I would have the balance to paddleboard, but, in fact, I actually paddleboarded better than the rest of the group! I was very proud of this accomplishment. However, when I tried to explain how I managed to master the paddleboard, I look around, lost my balance, and fell off, losing my sunglasses in the process! Pride goeth before the fall.
Yesterday, I ziplined for the very first time. When we climbed to the first zipline landing, I became overwhelmed with fear. this fear was exacerbated when Morgan screamed throughout the first line. However, instead of turning around like I wanted to, I conquered my fears and made it through! Much to my chagrin, there were two ziplines for which I required a guide (I'm not afraid of heights, but I don't know if I'll ever conquer my fear of falling). Additionally, although I tried to push myself to participate in the 60-foot freefall, I could not complete the task. However, I now feel fully prepared to conquer the high ropes courses back home, and to do better at ziplining some time in the future!
