If you are looking for adventure and a way to break out of your bubble, this trip or any study abroad experience is that you need! The adventures of kayaking and zip lining and simply eating foods and speaking a language that are unfamiliar really helps you realize that you can do anything that life throws your way. I found myself facing fears and accomplishing goals that I never dreamed I could before. One of the first things I told my family when arriving home is now that I have done this I can do anything! There were really uncomfortable moments when I didn't understand the language or didn't want to eat the food but I pushed through it and made the best of every situation. I know that I am a stronger and more independent woman because of this trip and for that alone I am thankful!
Meeting new people and making unforgettable memories was such an amazing part of this experience as well. The laughter in our Villa was constant and because of that it was hard to ever feel sad or down about something. I came into this experience with three close friends and I am leaving with a few more which is more than I had even hoped for. The bonds that were formed between some of us through the daily ups and downs of the trip will be hard to break. The pictures do no justice to the experiences and conversations we shared. The gift of friendship and laughter is the greatest gift and for that I am also extremely thankful!
If anyone is wondering whether or not to take a big leap into a study abroad experience, I would tell them if I could do it, anyone could do it! I am a young, sheltered, Catholic school girl from a small city, and I would never have thought I could become a part of an experience in such a different culture. In the end, learned for the negatives and embraced the positives. This was the best choice I have made in life and I wouldn't change any part of this experience, good or bad, for anything in the world.
