As this amazing journey comes to a close , I can't help but think of how blessed I am to have had such an amazing experience here in the Dominican Republic. I am still in shock that I was brave enough to take on this experience! I never thought that I could handle such a culture shock, but now that I have experienced the language, food, and family climate in the DR I am determined to see the world! It is an amazing feeling knowing I touched the hearts of so many people, young and old. As we said goodbye to our family we ate lunch with each day, I almost teared up when the girls in the family sang us goodbye songs and danced with us in the house! It was the sweetest and most special moment because it really clarified that I had created a bond with the girls and that they really enjoyed the time we shared together as much as i did. I hope that the girls in the house saw how important education is through Donna and I. We tried our best to teach them some English as they taught us a lot of Spanish. Donna and I gave the mother of our house a parting gift and she seemed so thankful and appreciative! She told us that we will always hold a special place in her heart and I know I will never forget her or the children.
Saying goodbye to Sarah, the staff and mostly the children at the school was very difficult! Just as we were getting comfortable and bonding with the kids, our time together ended. We sang the children a goodbye song and that's when it really hit me that this experience was coming to a close. I am so incredibly glad to have gotten to work with the children at 3MM and I truly feel that I have a greater understanding of the value of education, family, money, and most of all love. The love for children here is incredible and people show their love for children in so many ways. The biggest lesson that I have taken away from this experience is that the price of happiness is invaluable. The people here have showed me that happiness only comes from the people you surround yourself with and the outlook you have on life. Thank you to everyone who made this the most incredible experience ever!
