Its ironic that I would be the person to get sick!!! One thing that I have observed while being here is how concern the Dominican people are! There is a famous statement "It takes a village to raise a child" Here in Dominican Republic that is displayed! How sweet that everyone that seen my facial expression or seen that I was not laughing was concerned!!! What really touched my heart today is how when the cleaning lady came to clean our room today when she seen me in bed she immediately started to apologize and I woke up and just told her its ok!!! She walked out and insteadly her mother instincts kicked in!!! She asked me if I was sick!!! Her facial expression were of a mother helplessly trying to help at any avenue possible! Just to give you more evidence why she touched my heart was because her English was not so good but she continued to attempt to help she came over close and still tried to help!!! When I was in the restroom she kept checking on me what a blessing to have had her here today with me!!! Everyone can agree that when you are sick you want your mother or your mother is the first one to call to get advice from!!! My mother is miles away and shes worried but I stilled cried hoping that she would appear and look what happened! One thing that I will definitely take back with me is the will to overcome situations that seem impossible and frustrating because I see daily what these Dominican people are facing and they dont complain they use what they have and make the best of it! We in American have everything and we constantly want more!!! So remember BE GRATEFUL
What a great kick start to my adventure! I waa so excited count ing down the day until I left, fundraising and educating my community on what I was about to do!!! Know that im here it was all worth it!!! My first day offical waking up in the Dominican Republic was great!!! We first went to the coffee shop for breakfast I had a delicious ham, cheese and tomato on a croissant! Freshly squeezed orange juice! I have viewed the 3mm websites several times but the pictures dont do the school any justice! If I had to sum the school in one word it would be beautiful! Seeing the school in person gave me a new outlook and motivation for how I could make an atmosphere for children inviting and intriguing their interest. and curiosity! The director Sarah was welcoming, full of energy and a true aspiration for me!!! We had an orientation where Sarah poured her heart and soul about her school!! She shared her history, inspirations, family life and Dominican Republic!
We finally made it to Caberete Dominican Republic! The weather is beautiful!!! Sun was shinning!!! Food is excellent so far cant wait to see what tomorrow will hold!!! So grateful for this experience and wonderful women!!!
So excited and so ready to go!!! Stuck in buffalo still because of the weather!! im glad im safe!!!
