Today is the day it actually sank in that I will be in another country in less than 48 hours. There are so many things on my mind about what will take place in the next two and a half weeks. Being away from a familiar place and not seeing my loved ones is something that I keep thinking about. Also, not speaking fluent Spanish and not being able communicate with the people around me will be a difficult aspect of the trip as well. Then I remind myself that part of life is about taking chances and seeing the world, not being ordinary. I know this experience will be one I will cherish and learn from but there are so many aspects that leave me restless.
One thing I am so excited for more than anything is to see Montessori Method in a different atmosphere. I am thankful I had the opportunity to be a Junior Participant in Bennett Park Montessori. It prepared me for this upcoming experience. It will be amazing to see what they do in the Dominican Republic that is similar or different than here in the United States. I think by seeing and experiencing Montessori in two different places, I can learn a lot more about the method. During our time in the Dominican Republic I may be able to see some new lessons and ideas that could be incorporated into my teaching method / philosophy one day.
