While walking through a neighborhood, that is one of the poorest in the area, was one of the most life changing experiences that I have had on this trip. When walking through the neighborhood it was explained that since there is so much rain the houses have to constantly be rebuild because they sink into the ground after a heavy rain. After learning this I couldn't help but stay up at night thinking about all of those families, as the rain poured on my roof. It is completely eye opening to think that we often complain about the little things, when these people are constantly needing to rebuild their houses. Also, most of the people do not walk around with shoes on and none of the roads are paved. Because the roads are not paved, when it rains, it makes it extremely slippery and unsafe to walk around. For someone who is not used to seeing things like this, it was heartbreaking. But you would never feel any sadness from the people in the community of La Cienega. Their smiles were honestly contagious! Seeing how happy they are makes you take a step back and realize how truly blessed we all are to have all that we do.
