This weekend was full of activities once again! On Saturday we got up early in the morning and headed out to the city of Sosua! This is where we set off on an awesome snorkeling adventure! The guide took us out on a boat into a coral reef on outskirts of the shore of Sosua. When the boat was anchored in the middle of the ocean, I slipped on my flippers and put on my goggles! I then jumped into the ocean and began looking at the bottom of the ocean floor! I was amazed with what I saw at the bottom of the ocean! There were sea urchins, many colorful fish, and many sea plants! You better believe that I brought my underwater camera and took many photos! – I was first uneasy about the thought of swimming in the middle of an ocean where many unfamiliar creatures could come into contact with me, although I thoroughly enjoyed this experience because I warmed up to the idea of unfamiliarity.
On Sunday, we had to wake up extra early. This is because we took a day trip down to many different breathtaking destinations. Our first stop was about one hour away at Jarabacoa Falls! These falls were nothing like Niagara Falls! There was a different feel to these. We had to carefully walk over many unsteady drawbridges in order to reach this point. The scenery was immaculate which made it worth the walk! I was thinking as we headed toward these falls that it looked like we were on the set of Jurassic Park. Coincidentally, our tour guide did say that Jurassic Park was actually filmed at this site! After looking at this wonderful attraction, we all loaded up into the van and headed to a small hostel in the town of Moca. Here, we ate a wonderful Dominican themed lunch. After the lunch was over, we were surprised with a horseback riding session; although there were not enough horses for everybody to ride one. So, as a teacher should be, I was flexible!—I aloud everybody to have a horse and I was given the choice to ride the Moto next to the girls riding on the horses! After this activity ended, we headed up into the mountains and had a coffee and desert at a very fancy restaurant! This restaurant had a fantastic view of the city of Moca! (I even have picture to prove the beauty of it!) We then headed to Santiago! We viewed a monument made for Trujillo who was a very important historical figure to the Dominicans! After this, we headed back to our villa. This day trip was absolutely amazing and I was super happy to be able to see other parts of the Dominican Republic!
