On Friday, January 10, we went on a tour with the staff from 3 Mariposa Montessori to see the La Cienega. La Cienega is where a lot of the families live. On the tour we stopped at a public school.
The public school was painted yellow and was surrounded and protected by a yellow cement wall. At the top of the wall was barbed wire, and a guard let us in through the entrance. We arrived at the school around 11:30 a and the students were finishing up lunch and had free time before the next session began.
There is a morning sessions and an afternoon session. Students in the village attend one or the other. The students also wear uniforms. Light blue polos and khakis.
These are pictures from the school
This is a picture from one of the village kids. His mom was braiding Amanda's hair and he jumped on my lap as I watched.
Walking around the village was an experience. All of the village people were super friendly and happy to see us and show us their houses. They are very proud of what they have, and it makes you appreciate what you have.
