I cannot believe that in exactly one week we will all be in the Dominican Republic, and just as the snow is starting to fall around Western New York (again).
I started packing today and I think I have just about everything that I need for this trip while leaving room for nomenclature cards and donations. I do have to thank my father's co-workers. I checked in on their schools mail room to find not one but two boxes of donations ranging from books to children's games. Thanks to family members and sales too I also have a nice sized bag of ranging donations from the Montessori's wish list.
I really cannot wait to see the Montessori school in person and learn more about the Montessori program first hand. Although I attended Montessori school when I was around that age, I remember little of the experience and want to experience it again from the other side. I also cannot wait to see what I learn from my research into Montessori behavior modification. I hope that I may take back what I have learned through my re-search into the long term summer program in which I work.
With the help of two of my cousins the other day I was also able to find a thank-you gift for the family that I will visit during the afternoon for lunch. We found, with the suggestion of Tamara, a colorful round serving dish, a yellow kitchen towel, marbles (a game for the kids), and some "American" Candy; m'n'm's; lemon heads and friends; and Twizzlers. I really hope that the family likes all of these.
I have also been researching different recipes that I hope to make while in the Dominican Republic. I have already found a few recipes that I hope to try including a hot chocolate recipe that includes using oatmeal. As excited as I am to try different foods, I have also packed a box of cereal and some candy that I got for Christmas.
As excited as I am I will still miss the first grade class that I teach through my Church's religious education program. They have really become a treat every Saturday morning.
