This weekend was an adventurous weekend! We all decided that after this trip we all feel much more empowered! Yesterday we went to playa de grande and it was beautiful! I had a lot of fun with the other girls wave jumping. Today we went to Monkey Jungle for zip lining; we were pleasantly surprised that visiting monkeys, feeding them, and allowing them to jump all over us was included in this excursion. The guides made the excursion so much fun, I loved every second of it! I even got to hang upside down while zip lining- so cool! Yet again, another thing is off my bucket list. The monkeys were really crazy. They would jump off trees and onto us, the monkeys would go on our head, shoulders, and hands. Pictures will come when we are back in buffalo. It really was an insanely fun day, I wish my family would have been here to experience it with me!
We only have 3 days left at the school. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone by. I really hope we are able to complete the projects that we have planned even with the limited amount of time left. Sara and the team at 3 Mariposas Montessori are doing such a great job of striving for excellence at the school. They are devoted to making the school as Montessori based as possible and making it a wonderful place for the students. You can tell that the students feel welcomed and loved at the school. As they continue to grow and expand their resources it's clear the students themselves will not be forgotten in the process. Something I learned in one of my methods courses was that the children need to come first, before homework, assessments, classes, anything. Sara and the other teachers and volunteers make that a priority and it's a great thing to see. All the teachers have a lot on their plates but they are still dedicated to the children and their personal lives. I love seeing that as a priority in a school. It is possible and needs to remain a focus for me some day when I teach as well.
Only 5 days left here. It is bittersweet. I will miss the weather, spending time with the other girls, being in a different culture, and just living all these amazing experiences. Being home will be so nice to be with my family and back to a evil are routine, eating habits, and simple things like drinking the water. I just love this trip; yet again I'm brought to a place of gratitude and feel so blessed to have been a part of this!
