Today I really started feeling as if I am making strong connections with the children in the school and in the house we eat lunch at! I really enjoyed singing songs and doing finger plays during line time with the children. The smiles and looks on their faces were so precious and it made me feel that I am contributing to their education and happiness. I was digging in the dirt today while creating a mud pit for the children and I realized that everything we are doing here, even the smallest contributions, are so greatly appreciated and needed. I never realized how much most schools in the United States have compared to other country's schools! These schools rely mainly on donations and volunteers whereas schools in the United States receive at least some funding in one way or another. Yet we complain when we have no books in the schools in the U.S. I am really happy that I am becoming close with the family members that I eat lunch with also. The conversations I have with the girls there are helping so much with learning Spanish. I teach them some English words and then they teach me the Spanish words for them. We talk about the difficulties they have living in the Dominican Republic and their plans and dreams for the future. One of the girls wants to be an actress and the other a pilot. I feel like getting to know them and letting them know that they can be anything they want no matter what they have come from is
